Golden Bridge Initiative Science Outreach: Tomaz Amon Visits Shandong

In April 2026, under the Golden Bridge Initiative supported by the Central and Eastern European–China Science and Technology Exchange Association (CEECSTE), Slovenian entomologist and founder of bioacoustics research Tomaz Amon led a delegation to Shandong for a series of science outreach activities.

School Lectures: Tomaz Amon delivered lectures at Jinan Xinhang Experimental Foreign Language School and Liaocheng Yizhong Foreign Language School, introducing students to the sound production and communication mechanisms of crickets, locusts, cicadas, and shield bugs, inspiring their interest in science.

Museum Activities: At the Jinan Chirping Insects Live Natural Museum, students observed insect specimens up close and learned about the science behind insect sounds through interactive, immersive experiences.

Tomaz Amon serves as Vice President of CEECSTE and is a national treasure of Slovenia. He has dedicated nearly 50 years to research in insect neurophysiology and bioacoustics. His educational software has been adopted as official curriculum in Slovenia.

This series of activities broadened students’ scientific horizons and sparked curiosity and exploration of the natural world.
